First EF Lens with Built-in “Lens Information Display” LCD Panel that Offers Useful Shooting Information at a Glance
EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM features a “Lens Information Display” LCD panel on the lens barrel to make shooting easier and more enjoyable by providing useful information at a glance. Three display modes including “Focusing Distance”, “Focal Length” and “Camera Shake Amount” are supported, and users can easily switch among the modes with a press of the mode switch button. By holding down the button for about 2 seconds, the display shows reversed colors to accommodate the shooting preference of different users.

“Focusing Distance” Display Mode
This mode shows the focusing distance of the lens, with depth of field scale shown at the bottom of the display to keep users well informed of the focusing distance and corresponding depth of field at a certain aperture value during shooting. When shooting in Live View mode at a low angle with EOS cameras equipped with vari-angle LCD monitor, users can check the focusing distance and the captured image on both the lens’ and camera’s LCD panels at the same time.


“Focal Length” Display Mode
This mode shows the focal length of the lens. When shooting with APS-C or APS-H format EOS cameras, the display shows the converted focal length equivalent to 35mm format to help users achieve the desired framing with confidence.


“Camera Shake Amount” Display Mode
When shooting in Live View mode, users can be better informed of the amount of vertical and horizontal shake of the camera and lens to help achieve sharper images.


“Black-White Reversed” Display
To accommodate the shooting preference of users, the panel will become black-white reversed when the mode switch button is held down for about 2 seconds.

EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM adopts a newly developed 17 elements in 12 groups optical design that utilizes 1 Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) lens to favorably correct chromatic aberration and achieve sharp subject outlines with little color blurring, realizing high-resolution and high-contrast images. Optimal placement of lens elements guarantees high image quality across the entire zoom range.


Featuring an optical Image Stabilizer (IS) that offers shake compensation up to 4 step² of shutter speed, the lens offers improved IS performance than its predecessor to further facilitate handheld shooting at tele-end. Canon’s advanced IS technology can distinguish between normal shooting and panning for optimal compensation, helping users capture movement with greater accuracy.


In addition, lens performance and operability are also enhanced. The use of a 9-blade circular aperture delivers beautiful out-of-focus images. With a minimum focusing distance of 1.2m and 0.25x maximum magnification, the lens offers great flexibility to capture close-up shots and can reveal intricate details in exceptional clarity. Shooting with filters mounted is also made easier as the front lens element does not rotate during focusing. To guarantee high mobility, a zoom ring lock is included to lock the zoom position at 70mm to prevent damage to the lens due to accidental extension while the use of metallic lens mount also brings enhanced durability. Optional Lens Hood ET-74B can be used to further suppress the occurrence of flare when shooting outdoor.
