Open Gate Recording

The EOS C50 is the first Cinema EOS camera to feature Open Gate recording. Featuring a Full-frame (3:2) sensor mode, filmmakers can utilise the entire sensor area for stunning high-resolution recordings, especially beneficial with anamorphic lenses. This capability unlocks limitless creative possibilities for post-production, allowing users to easily edit and output both horizontal and vertical videos from the same footage. Embrace an era where you can have even more artistic freedom.
Simultaneous Recording During RAW Recording
The EOS C50 features dual CFexpress and SD card slots, supporting simultaneous recording* even in RAW. 7K RAW can be saved to CFexpress while XF-AVC, XF-HEVC S, XF-AVC S, or proxy files can be recorded to SD. Different formats, resolutions, and colour sampling can be assigned for backup, distribution, or quicker edit-ready files — streamlining workflows and reducing turnaround time.
*During slow-motion recording, simultaneous recording may not be possible depending on the shooting frame rate.

File Format & Resolution
Simultaneously record in different formats and resolutions — for example, MXF for broadcast, MP4 for online use, or 7K for future archiving.

Progressive & Interlace
Record Progressive and Interlaced in combination, such as UHD 60P and FHD 60i.

Proxy Recording
Simultaneously record 422 10-bit data for online editing and 420 10/8-bit data for offline editing.

Intra & L-GOP
Simultaneously record Intra and L-GOP according to the purpose, such as archiving and online use.
Simultaneous Crop Recording
4K DCI / UHD and 2K DCI / FHD crop recording can be performed simultaneously. This allows you to capture both the full image (17:9, 16:9, etc.) and a cropped section — such as vertical or square — simultaneously. The cropped frame can also be shifted horizontally to the desired position, with recording available in different formats for added flexibility.

Recording Resolution Combinations
Recording Format Combinations

Spectacular 4K Image Quality with 7K Oversampling

Achieve crystal clear high definition 4K video with up to 7K* readout oversampling 4K 4:2:2 10-bit high-resolution recording through oversampling for even higher-resolution visual capabilities.
*For up to 30p. Image quality will differ when oversampling at 60p/50p
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
The EOS C50 features Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, offering high-speed, high-precision autofocus across up to 100%100%1 of the frame. This ensures reliable subject tracking anywhere in the scene, giving you more freedom in framing and composition.
Powered by deep learning, the camera now recognises people, cats, dogs, and birds2, with advanced eye detection (right/left priority) as well as face, head, and body3 tracking. Whether filming portraits or fast-moving animals, autofocus remains smooth, accurate and reliable.
*1 Supported only with compatible lenses that cover up to 90% x 100% of the AF area. Subject and scene conditions may limit AF frame movement.
*2 Detection of animals other than dogs, cats and birds are not supported.

High Frame Rates
The EOS C50 supports high frame rates of up to 2K at 180p and 4K at 120p, allowing you to capture smooth, slow-motion footage. Perfect for sports, music videos, or dramatic moments by turning fast action into fluid, cinematic sequences.
Recording is available in 4:2:2 10-bit, ensuring rich colour and flexibility in post-production. AF/AE functionality is also supported at up to 2K 150p and 4K 120p, giving you reliable focus and exposure even during high-speed shooting.
*When 2K 120-180P is selected in Full-frame mode, the angle of view is cropped by approx. 12%.
Expanding Your Vision with Canon Log
Dual-Base ISO

The EOS C50 features Dual-Base ISO with Auto Selection, automatically switching between ISO 400 and ISO 3200 depending on the scene. This ensures the highest signal-to-noise ratio while maintaining a wide dynamic range.Users can also manually select the base ISO* to match lighting conditions. Adapting ISO to scene brightness helps suppress noise for cleaner recordings
*C-Log 2/3 & RAW: ISO 800 / 6400. BT.709 Std: ISO 160 / 1250
Anamorphic Lens Support

Anamorphic lenses feature an elongated rear element that compresses the widescreen image to about half its width. This unique design creates distinctive flare and bokeh effects that standard lenses cannot replicate. When connected to an LCD monitor or via HDMI, desqueezed video can be displayed by selecting the desired magnification (OFF / 2.0x / 1.8x / 1.5x / 1.3x) from the menu. Metadata settings can also be configured independently of the chosen desqueeze ratio, giving users greater flexibility in post-production.
Canon Log 2

Delivering characteristics closer to traditional film, preserving detail in medium-to-dark areas. With a wider linear output range, it offers greater flexibility in exposure control during editing, maintaining image quality while minimising colour shifts when brightness changes. The Canon Log 2 integrates seamlessly into film-style production environments based on Cineon-Log.
Canon Log 3

Canon Log 3 is renowned for its ease of use, making it simple to achieve cinematic results with only basic grading. By tightening dark areas, it reduces noise while retaining a broad dynamic range. Balanced and versatile, Canon Log 3 is ideal for creators who want faster turnaround without compromising expressive image quality.
Image Stabilisation
The camera’s Movie Digital IS works with its five-axis system to reduce shake, delivering stable footage even when using lenses without optical IS1, non-communicating lenses, or anamorphic lenses. When paired with an IS-equipped lens, Coordinated Control2 between the camera’s electronic IS and the lens’s optical IS via RF mount communication provides even greater blur reduction.

*1 Using a telephoto lens that does not have image stabilisation (IS), subject blur may be noticeable. This can be improved by using a faster shutter speed.
*2 Coordinated control is enabled when using an RF lens with in-lens IS.
*3 When a lens with Dynamic IS is mounted, the correction range is expanded, particularly at the wide-angle end, and the correction effect is enhanced during movie recording.
*4 When using Movie Digital IS, the shooting range becomes narrower. The image will also become grainy as it will be enlarged.
Professional Interfaces
This fantastic camera is equipped with a TIME CODE terminal, perfect for seamless multi-camera setups. It also features two XLR terminals and a handy audio control dial for that professional audio input you desire. Plus, its multi-function shoe adds even more versatility. With built-in Wi-Fi, you can effortlessly operate and monitor the camera from your smartphone or computer, giving you incredible flexibility and control over your creative vision.

Heat Management
The EOS C50 is built to perform under pressure, combining durability with an advanced heat-dissipating design. By redesigning internal airflow and adding a front air intake, cooling efficiency has been significantly enhanced compared to the EOS R5 C. Even with its compact form, this design ensures stable operation during extended shoots, delivering the durability and reliability professionals demand — all while upholding the trusted standards of the Cinema EOS line.

Versatile, Compact & Lightweight Design
Designed with a flat, streamlined body and minimal protrusions, the EOS C50 seamlessly integrates into any setup. Its light and compact form makes it easy to shoot handheld, on a gimbal, or even on a drone, giving you the freedom to build the setup that suits your creative vision.
The included handle unit not only supports high-quality audio recording with an external mic, but also opens up dynamic shooting angles — from low to unconventional perspectives. As a Cinema EOS camera, the EOS C50 is can be rigged up for a full production shoot as well.
