The RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is the RF version of the renowned EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM with the tele-end further extended to 500mm while keeping a similar compact size, thanks to the advantages of the RF mount. This 5x zoom power super-telephoto is only 207.6mm long with a lighter weight of 1,370 g only that brings user extremely high mobility.

Outstanding Image Quality
Taking advantage of the large diameter mount and short back focus of RF Mount, RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM ‘s newly developed 20 elements in 14 groups optical design with effective use of 1 Super UD lens and 6 UD lens elements to yield high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The lens adopts a 9-blade circular aperture that allows photographers to create beautiful and soft background blur when photographing subjects in distance.

Super UD & UD lens
1 Super Ultra-Low Dispersion (Super UD) lens element and 6 Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) lens elements reduced axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification significantly to yield high image quality throughout the entire zoom range.
The use of Super UD and UD lenses also successfully suppresses color aberration from bokeh in the defocus region, which achieves beautiful bokeh.
ASC (Air Sphere Coating)
ASC (Air Sphere Coating) anti-reflection coating technology is incorporated to reduce flare and ghosting, and improves image clarity and contrast when shooting into backlight.
Electronic Floating Focus Control
The RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM adopts the "Electronic Floating Focus Control" technology with an additional "floating lens group" to the "focus lens group" for autofocus. With this technology, the positions of the "focus lens group" and "floating lens group" can change according to the focal length and subject distance without the need of complex zoom cam mechanism, so that out-of-focus and aberrations are always reduced during zooming while keeping the lens compact.
High Speed and Silent AF
Two Nano USMs are used in RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM to drive the "focus lens group" and "floating lens group" individually. They can deliver high speed and high accuracy AF for photo shooting as well as smooth and nearly silent Movie Servo AF for movie recording.

0.33x Maximum Magnification
The "Electronic Floating Focus Control" also allows the lens design to provide a shorter minimum focus distance to enhance close-up ability. This lens offers a 0.9m and 1.2m minimum focusing distance at its wide-end and tele-end respectively, and a stunning 0.33x maximum magnification can also be achieved at 500mm, allowing users to focus on close-up objects with ease.
Image Stabilization up to 5 stops1
The lens’ built-in Optical Image Stabilizer provides up to 5-stops image stabilization1 that facilitates handheld shooting. When paired with EOS R series cameras equipped with In-Body Image Stabilization, up to 6-stops2 image stabilization can be achieved, which allows to shoot with slow shutter in low light situations.

Compatible with Extender RF1.4x and 2x
RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is compatible with Extender RF1.4x and 2x, which extends the focal length by 1.4 times to 700mm and 2 times to 1000mm3 respectively. Autofocus is possible even with Extender RF1.4x 4 or RF2x 5 attached.

Unparalleled Reliability and Operability
Compatible with Electronic full-time MF6
The lens is compatible with Electronic full-time MF6, focus can be adjusted manually with focus ring anytime during ONE SHOT AF or SERVO AF.
*Available with Lens Firmware Ver.1.0.9 or later.
Adjustment Ring
Features the Adjustment Ring to adjust the operational feeling (weight of movement) of the zoom ring to a preferred level between SMOOTH and TIGHT.
Control Ring
Incorporates the RF lens control ring to adjust assigned settings such as ISO speed, shutter speed or aperture value directly from the lens.
The clicking sensation and sound of the control ring can be removed for silent control during photo shooting or video recording. This service is available at Canon Care Center (chargeable service).
Hood with sliding window for easy filter operation
A sliding window is provided on the bundled Lens Hood ET-83F (W III) for easy operation of Circular Polarizing filter or Variable ND filter, etc. with the hood attached.
Heat-Shield Coating
Features a white heat shield coating on both body and lens hood to suppress the rise of the lens temperature in hot weather to ensure stable optical performance.
Dust and water-resistant Design7
High level of durability and shock resistance with dust-and-water-resistant design7 to meet professional requirement.
The lens’ design also takes into account that the negative pressure generated when zooming to telephoto will suck in air and bring in dust. In order not to suck in air from an unexpected place, a special ventilation route is thus designed to control the air flow as intended. A dust-proof material that allows air to pass through but not moisture is also used to prevent moisture from entering. It solves the problem of dust invasion prone to lens with extending zoom structure.
Fluorine coating
Fluorine coating on foremost lens surfaces helps prevent dust, oil and water from sticking to the lens, makes cleaning much easier.
