RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM
The world’s first macro lens with 1.4x max. magnification.1 It is equipped with an innovative SA Control Ring to allow users to freely change the bokeh depiction and create soft focus effects or bokeh style similar to old lenses. It also supports Canon's Hybrid IS technology to correct shift-based camera shake common in macro photography.

The RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM is the world’s first1 medium telephoto macro lens with a maximum shooting magnification of 1.4x. It fully utilizes the benefits of RF mount. With the application of "Electronic Floating Focus Control", the macro shooting capability is expanded from 1x to 1.4x, revealing even more details of the subject and thus bringing about the visual impact that cannot be achieved with 1x magnification. RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM also brings macro photography performance to the next level, pathing the way for EOS R users to the dreamy world of macro photography.
0.26m minimum focusing distance at 1.4x maximum magnification
The minimum focusing distance at 1.4x magnification is 0.26m, where the working distance between the front of the lens and the subject is 8.6cm. This prevents casting shadow on the subject as well as allowing sufficient working space for specific lighting setup.
Dual Nano USM
Equipped with "Electronic Floating Focus Control" with two Nano USMs to drive focusing lens group and floating lens group individually for short minimum focusing distance and high speed AF.
High Image Quality
A newly developed 17 elements in 13 groups optical design taking the full advantages of RF mount to achieve high image quality across the entire frame even at its closest focusing distance.
The lens is equipped with a Spherical Aberration(SA) Control Ring that allows adjustments to the softness of edges of the subject and the softness of background and foreground blur through adjusting the aberration correction. By doing so, users can enjoy a variety of other photographic expressions such as those similar to "softfocus" and bokeh effects of some old lenses that cannot be provided by ordinary macro lenses.
When the SA Control Ring is at centre position, bokeh effect will be similar to that of a normal macro lens. A SA control ring lock switch is available to lock the SA Control Ring at the centre position to prevent accidental adjustment. RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM is also a high quality medium telephoto lens suitable for use in a broad range of creative works from portrait to street photography.

A Medium Telephoto Macro Lens with Variable Usage
Macro lenses have the ability to magnify and show details of subjects that cannot be observed with bare eye, making them best for flowers, insects, and tiny accessories photography. RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM has high resolution power, making it suitable for use as a high quality prime. Combining f/2.8 large aperture and 100mm medium telephoto focal length, it is also suitable for portrait, food and commercial photography.
Image stabilisation up to 8-stop
RF100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM offers a stunning 8-stop shake compensation2 when used with EOS R series cameras equipped with In-Body Image Stabilization. For other EOS R cameras, it provides a 5-stop shake compensation3 during normal shooting. Sharp image can be obtained even when shooting handheld with rather slow shutter speed.

Canon's Hybrid IS

Spherical Aberration Control - a mechanism to change the bokeh style freely
The SA control is Canon’s first variable bokeh mechanism by changing the degree of spherical aberration (SA) compensation. It gives users the ability to change the bokeh style freely for different photo expressions such as soft-focus effect. By changing the degree of spherical aberration, the outlines at the focus position can be softened, and the bokeh style in front and past the focus position can be hardened or softened.
The SA Control Ring is made possible by employing the "Electronic Floating Focus Control" and two Nano USMs, which allows driving the focus lens group and the floating lens group independently. Normally (SA control ring: 0), the floating lens group moves to correct spherical aberration in conjunction with the movement of the focus lenses. When the SA control ring is operated, the lens group is driven independently and the trajectory of movement changes. The change in spherical aberration makes it possible for the user to control the bokeh style to achieve diverse photographic expressions even when shooting portraits or snapshots as a medium telephoto lens.
