The lens features a lens barrel extension and retraction mechanism, which can extend the lens from stow to shooting position simply by turning the zoom ring without the need for an extra lock switch. This makes the lens operation much simpler.

Taking the advantage of RF Mount’s large diameter and short back focus, the optical design of RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is optimized to 8 elements in 8 groups to reduce size and weight. Two optimally placed PMo aspherical lenses help reduce the cost and size while still maintaining excellent image quality. Optimization of the lens construction and the focusing lens shape also provides high image quality from close-up through to infinity. Lastly, the 7-blade circular aperture of the lens provides impressive bokeh.

High Speed AF
RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is equipped with a leadscrew-type Stepping Motor (STM) and a rear focus system to provide quick and smooth AF for still images and video shooting.
Supports Focus Breathing Correction
When paired with EOS R-series cameras supporting Focus Breathing Correction, the changes in the angle of view caused by focus movement can be suppressed. It allows users to record natural movies with no discomfort even if focus is changed from foreground to background or vice-versa.
"Focus mode / Control Selector" Switch
RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM adopts a “Focus mode / Control Selector” switch design for the first time, which provides AF/Control/MF options. This new switch design not only allows easy switching the function of “Focusing/Control Ring” between Focusing Ring and Control Ring, it also makes fast switching between auto focus and manual focus possible without going into camera menu.

Compatible with Electronic full-time MF
Lens is compatible with Electronic full-time MF4, focus can be adjustment manually with focus ring anytime during ONE SHOT AF or SERVO AF.
Lens Hood EW-63C (Optional)
The optional petal-shape Lens Hood EW-63C further enhances flare resistance.

3 Setting the Focus Mode / Control Selector switch to CONTROL will fix the focus mode as AF. However, depending on the camera used, it is possible to switch the focus mode to MF on the camera.

- Multiple exposure shooting is not supported when using with EOS R5/R6/R/Ra/RP, it is also not possible to shoot multiple exposures with another lens using images shot with this lens.
- The lens distortion correction on the camera is set to [Enable] automatically when in use.
