Canon’s 50mm f/1.8 lens has always been a favorite for beginners. The design concept of  RF50mm F1.8 STM is to offer EOS R series camera users an affordable and compact standard lens with large aperture. The lens weights only 160g and 40.5mm long. Its f/1.8 large aperture can bring beautiful bokeh for portraits and one PMo aspherical lens is added to achieve high level of rendering capability. It also provides a 0.25x magnification with 0.3m minimum focusing distance, which is also suitable for pet, food photography and snapshots.

Compatible camera: EOS R series mirrorless cameras

Natural Perspective closes to human eyes

The angle of view of a standard lens is said to be close to the field of vision seen by the eye, and its feature is that you can shoot with a natural composition. As a result, the lens is suitable to shoot a wide range of topics, such as portrait, animals, or snapshots.

Large F1.8 aperture for shallow depth of field

RF50mm F1.8 STM is about two to three stops brighter than a kit zoom lens and easier to blur than a zoom lens. You can softly and significantly blur the foreground and background to make people stand out and shoot photos with a three-dimensional effect. The f/1.8 aperture also has advantages such as being able to shoot with fast shutter speeds, suppression of subject blurring and camera shake, and lower ISO speeds.

High performance under low-luminance situation

When using RF50mm F1.8 STM with a full frame mirrorless camera body, its f/1.8 large aperture is capable to freeze the movement with a higher speed shutter in dark situations, providing much better captures than smartphones. Its 7-blade circular aperture also helps to achieve gorgeous and beautiful round circular bokeh.

Compact & Lightweight

The affordable RF50mm F1.8 STM weights only 160g and measures 40.5mm in length, making it a must-buy item for EOS R system users.

High Image Quality from the Center to Edge

The Gauss type optical system found in RF50mm F1.8 STM was improved for short back focus and optimized for the RF mount. Taking advantage of the RF mount's large mount diameter, a large-diameter lens elements can now be placed closer to the image plane, thus both high image quality across the entire screen and downsizing of the optical system are possible.

PMo Aspherical Lens

The lens 6 element in 5 group optical design incorporates 1 PMo Aspherical Lens to correct coma aberration in the periphery of the screen, bringing higher peripheral image quality from maximum aperture.

Super Spectra Coating

Renowned Super Spectra Coating and optimized shapes of lens elements help to improve anti-ghosting and flare performance.

Impressive 0.25x magnification

The lens achieves an impressive 0.25x maximum magnification at minimum focusing distance of 0.3m, which is useful for taking pictures on small items, like foods, candies or even some small accessories.

Focus/Control Ring

"Focus/Control Ring" design with a “Focus/Control Selector Switch” for easy switching between Full-time manual focusing and Control Ring operation such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed or exposure compensation adjustment.

Metallic lens mount

The use of metallic lens mount ensures durability of the lens.
