The lens features a new lens barrel extension and retraction mechanism, which can extend the lens from stow to shooting position simply by turning the zoom ring without the need for an extra lock switch. This makes the lens operation much simpler.

Taking the advantage of RF Mount’s large diameter and short back focus, the 7 elements in 7 group optical design of RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM features 2 PMo aspherical lens to minimize aberrations and delivery high image quality across the entire frame1. RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM features outstanding ability in capturing close-up images. When using with autofocus, it provides up to 0.16x magnification (at 45mm) and minimum focusing distance at 0.2m. (at 18mm)
While using with manual focus, it can provide up to 0.26x magnification at 45mm and minimum focusing distance at 0.15m. (at 18mm)
High Speed AF
RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is equipped with a leadscrew-type Stepping Motor (STM) and a rear focus system to provide quick and smooth AF for still images and video shooting.
Image Stabilizer
The lens optical image stabilizer offers up to 4-stop shake compensation2 to facilitate handheld shooting with a slower shutter speed. When used with the EOS R series cameras equipped with In-Body Image Stabilization, a stunning 6.5-stop shake compensation3 is achieved through Coordinate Control IS.
Focus/Control Ring4
Featuring "Focus/Control Ring" design which user can easily switching with camera’s menu between Full-time manual focusing and Control Ring operation such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed or exposure compensation adjustment.
Compatible with full-frame EOS R cameras
RF-S18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is also compatible with full-frame EOS R bodies, while mounted on a Full Frame EOS R-series camera, [1.6x (crop)] will be set automatically.
Lens Hood EW-53 (Optional)
The optional petal-shape Lens Hood EW-53 further enhances flare resistance.
1 Multiple exposure shooting is not supported when using with EOS R5/R6/R/Ra/RP, it is also not possible to shoot multiple exposures with another lens using images shot with this lens. The lens distortion correction on the camera is set to [Enable] automatically when in use.
