The RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM is a super-telephoto zoom lens with a long reach of 400 but weights only 625g and 164.7mm in length.  

Taking the advantage of the RF mount, the lens' newly developed 12 elements in 9 groups optical design successfully reduces the number of lens elements to achieve compactness and lightweight.

The incorporation of 1 UD lens element corrects chromatic aberration throughout the entire zoom range to achieve crisp imaging with minimal color blur. And the effective placement of a PMo aspheric lens enables users to capture subjects with high resolution and contrast, even at 400mm.

The RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM is comparable in size to 70-300mm zoom lens, but also features a 100mm extension to the telephoto range. The 400mm focal length helps to bring subjects closer or capture larger images of subjects in settings such as landscape, theater or sports where getting closer is physically impossible, or when photographing cautious birds or animals from a distance.

At 400mm, the RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM achieves an impressive 0.41x magnification at 1.05m shooting distance, which comes in handy when shooting small flowers and insects. The best can be brought out of the lens compression effect and bokeh of telephoto lenses.
Even at the lens minimum focus distance of 0.88m (at 200mm), it still delivers a magnification of 0.24x.

The lens' Optical Image Stabilizer offers up to 5.5-stop shake compensation¹ to facilitate handheld shooting. When used with the EOS R series cameras equipped with In-Body Image Stabilization, IS effect is enhanced to 6-stop² with the In-Body Image Stabilizer. Sharp images become possible even for shooting handheld at 400mm with slow shutter.

Autofocus is possible even with Extender RF1.4x or RF2x attached³.
