RF28mm F2.8 STM
RF28mm F2.8 STM is the first pancake lens developed for RF mount. Weighing only approximately 120g and a thickness of 24.7mm, it is so small and light that you might forget that it is attached to the camera. The lens’ 8 elements in 6 groups optical design features 3 large-diameter PMo aspherical lenses for high image quality. This wide-angle 28mm lens offers convenience to full-frame camera users. And for APS-C camera users, it can be used as a standard lens with a natural angle of view corresponding to 45mm (35mm full frame equivalent), making it an appealing choice of focal length for users of both systems. With its fast f/2.8 aperture, this pancake lens produces lovely bokeh and works well in low light.
Compatible cameras: EOS R series mirrorless cameras
The Smallest, thinnest, and lightest RF lens1
RF28mm F2.8 STM is the first pancake lens developed for RF Mount with a maximum diameter at approx. 69.2mm, a length of approx. 24.7mm (retracted), and weight of approx. 120g. When used with a compact and lightweight EOS R Series camera, it offers outstanding portability and is light enough to be attached in place of a body cap.

Weights only approx. 581g when used with compact full frame EOS R8 camera.

Weights only approx. 495g when used with ultra compact APS-C EOS R50 camera.
Easy-to-use wide-angle on Full Frame camera
When attached to a full frame EOS R camera, RF28mm F2.8 STM can be used as a wide-angle 28mm f/2.8 lens. Its wide angle of view covers a wide range of scenes from landscapes and cityscapes to portraits, even indoor shots can be made easier. And it enables expressive capabilities utilizing a sense of perspective emphasized in just the right ways.

45mm equivalent F2.8 lens on an APS-C camera
When attached to an APS-C EOS R camera, RF28mm F2.8 STM can be used as a standard 45mm equivalent f/2.8 lens (35mm Full Frame equivalent). This offers the natural perspective of a standard lens along with just the right distance for communication with the subject. It can be used to easily capture a wide variety of settings, such as portraits, snapshots, food, and table photos.

F2.8 aperture for shallow depth of field
RF28mm F2.8 STM’s aperture is brighter than a kit zoom lens and easier to blur than a zoom lens. The foreground and background can be blurred softly and significantly to make people stand out and shoot photos with a three-dimensional effect. The f/2.8 aperture also has advantages such as being able to shoot with fast shutter speeds, suppression of subject blurring and camera shake, and lower ISO speeds.

Outstanding Image Quality
Taking the advantage of RF Mount’s large diameter and short back focus, 3 large-diameter PMo aspherical lenses are placed close to the image plane in RF28mm F2.8 STM‘s 8 elements in 6 groups optical design, the number of lenses to be composed is thus reduced while providing both high image quality from the center to the periphery and small size and light weight.
Moreover, by reducing the number of lenses in front of the diaphragm and downsizing the front lens, ghosting is dramatically suppressed. Lastly, the 7-blade circular aperture of the lens provides impressive bokeh.

PMo Aspherical Lens
3 large-diameter PMo aspherical lenses contribute to the correction of astigmatism and field curvature, providing both high image quality from the center to the periphery and compactness while keep the number of elements to a minimum.
7.0-stop shake compensation2 with EOS R series In-body Image Stabilizer
In order to prioritize compactness and light weight, RF28mm F2.8 STM does not feature image stabilization. However, it provides the appropriate 5-axis image stabilization up to 7.0-stop2 when attached to an EOS R series camera equipped with in-body IS (IBIS).

High Speed AF
RF28mm F2.8 STM is equipped with a gear-type Stepping Motor (STM) to achieve a more compact design and provide high speed and smooth AF for still images and video shooting.
Supports Focus Breathing Correction
When paired with EOS R-series cameras supporting Focus Breathing Correction, the changes in the angle of view caused by focus movement can be suppressed. It allows users to record natural movies with no discomfort even if focus is changed from foreground to background or vice-versa.

"Focus mode / Control Selector"Switch
RF28mm F2.8 STM is equipped with “Focusing/Control Ring” and adopts an arc-shaped “Focus mode / Control Selector” switch design to provide operability in a compact format. This switch design provides AF/Control/MF options and not only allows easy switching the function of “Focusing/Control Ring” between Focusing Ring and Control Ring, it also makes fast switching between auto focus and manual focus possible without going into camera menu.

Compatible with Electronic full-time MF
Lens is compatible with Electronic full-time MF3, focus can be adjustment manually with focus ring anytime during ONE SHOT AF or SERVO AF.

Lens Hood EW-55 (Optional)
The optional Lens Hood EW-55 made from aluminum alloy further enhances flare resistance.
1 For RF lenses currently available as of May. 23, 2023
2 CIPA Standard, Focal Length: 28mm, EOS R3 is used. In yaw/pitch direction.
3 Setting the Focus Mode / Control Selector switch to CONTROL will fix the focus mode as AF. However, depending on the camera used, it is possible to switch the focus mode to MF on the camera.
4 For EOS R series camera supporting electronic full-time manual focus. Please refer to camera’s instruction manual for details.
