RF45mm F1.2 STM provides large and bright f/1.2 aperture at an affordable price. The generous bokeh made possible by a large aperture lens allows users to create images with a three-dimensional look that makes subjects softly stand out. 

The RF45mm F1.2 STM’s extremely shallow depth of field at maximum aperture enables significant blur in the background, making subjects stand out. Background blur is smoother than with kit lenses or even the RF50mm F1.8 STM, giving images a natural, seamless look.

Its 9-blade circular diaphragm also allows the user to enjoy a beautiful, almost circular bokeh effect when the aperture is stopped down slightly.

45mm Standard Focal Length

The 45mm focal length of RF45mm F1.2 STM is closer to human vision than the typical 50mm for standard lenses, enabling more natural angles of view and perspectives. The angle of view is slightly wider than a 50mm lens, making it suitable for portraits, snapshots, landscapes, and more.

When mounted on an APS-C EOS R camera, the RF45mm F1.2 STM can be used as a medium telephoto equivalent to 72mm F1.2  (35mm full-frame equivalent). This provides the compression effect of a medium-telephoto lens as well as maintaining an ideal distance for capturing natural expressions of people, making it perfect for portrait photography.

Lightweight & Compact

RF45mm F1.2 STM features the largest-diameter PMo aspherical lens among RF lenses and uses electronic distrotion correction on the camera side reduces the number of lens elements, making the optics more compact for a lighter and smaller design even with the wide f/1.2 aperture. Moreover, the use of Gear-type STM with electronic focus system enables a significantly smaller and lighter system over a Ring USM. The adoption of front focusing and fixed-length lens barrel design also enables the use of resin cam barrel instead of metal for a lighter f/1.2 lens. 

As a result, the RF45mm F1.2 STM it weighs only about 346g, with a length of approximately 75 mm and a diameter of about 78 mm eventhough it is an f/1.2 aperture lens,. Its compact and lightweight design makes it easy to carry. Whether for street photography, travel, or everyday creative work, it is an ideal choice as a carry-around lens.

Diverse Photographic Capabilities

RF45mm F1.2 STM’s newly developed 9 elements in 7 groups optical design takes full advantage of the large diameter mount and short back focus of RF Mount together with the use of electronic distortion correction. The effective placement of one large-diameter PMo aspherical lens, achieves excellent rendering capability and compactness while also minimizing lens elements and keeping the price affordable.  In addition, the use of a fixed rear-lens focusing system minimizes fluctuations in image quality at different shooting distances.

With the RF45mm F1.2 STM, imaging at wide-open aperture is distinctive and soft, letting users enjoy distinct photographic styles from the L Lenses which have higher resolution and sharpness. On the other hand, narrowing the aperture enables rendering with sharpness from the image center to the periphery. Aperture control for each setting or subject lets users enjoy wide-ranging photographic capabilities from a single lens.

8.0-stop shake compensation with In-body Image Stabilizer

Up to 8.0-stop shake compensation at center and 7.5-stop in peripheral can be achieve When the RF45mm F1.2 STM is paired with EOS R-series cameras featuring In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), up to 8.0-stop shake compensation at center and 7.5-stop in peripheral¹ can be achieved.

High Speed AF

The RF45mm F1.2 STM is equipped with Gear-type STM and a front focusing system to provide fast and accurate AF.

Supports Focus Breathing Correction

When paired with EOS R-series cameras supporting Focus Breathing Correction, the changes in the angle of view caused by focus movement can be suppressed. It allows users to record natural movies with no discomfort even if focus is changed from foreground to background or vice-versa.
