RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is Canon’s first RF lens designed for photo and movie hybrid shooting, iris ring and support to Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2 (optional) is added for the first time, providing precise operation control as found in cinema lens during movie shooting. The lens also features internal zoom design, which achieves less change in center of gravity during zooming as well as smooth zoom operation. Its 24-105mm zoom range and f/2.8 fast aperture brings more flexibility to news, documentaries, corporate work, weddings, events, and social media content. The lens incorporates 1 high precision Replica aspherical lens, 2 GMo aspherical lenses and 4 UD lenses to provide high quality image throughout the zoom range, ASC is also added to provide excellent suppression of flare and ghosting. Its 11-blade circular aperture delivers beautiful and soft background blur. The lens employs an electronic floating focus control that independently drives two focal lens groups with two Nano USM, providing high speed AF and maintaining focus position during zooming. The lens’s optical image stabilizer offers 5.5-stop4 shake compensation. When used with EOS R-series camera featuring In-Body Image Stabilization, up to 8.0-stop5 shake compensation can be achieved with coordinated control IS. RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is the World’s First 24-105mm focal length lens with consistent F2.8 specification1, providing users with flexible 24-105mm focal length and F2.8 aperture. It is also the first RF lens to incorporate Iris Ring and support Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2 (optional), providing precise operation control as found in cinema lens during movie shooting. Incorporates Iris Ring for the First Time
RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is the first RF lens to equip with iris ring (aperture control)2, which supports 1/32-stop aperture adjustment during movie shooting3.
With an approx. 80o rotation angle between f/2.8 and f/22, users can intuitively control exposure adjustment and degree of background blurs (bokeh) while enjoying light smooth torque feeling without clicking of the iris ring, similar to the operability found in cinema lens.
Precise Zooming Control
In order to meet the needs of movie users, RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z has been designed to support Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2 (Optional, available in March 2024), enabling the users to operate smooth zooming and minute adjustment of zoom speed. Attachment and detachment of this accessory can be managed without the use of a special tool.
Fixed-length Lens Barrel with Internal Zoom
RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z uses internal zoom design that achieved fixed length of the lens barrel even while operating zoom. Because the gravity center of the camera-lens system is not easily altered, RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z supports stable composition and realizes comfortable shooting operation. This design is also advantageous when utilizing accessories, such as gimbal, for movie shooting.
Tripod Mount for Easy Attachment and Detachment

Consistent F2.8 Large Aperture
A large-diameter lens element can be placed close to the image plane by taking advantage of the large-aperture mount and short back focus, resulting in a maximum aperture of F2.8 throughout all zoom range. When compared to the RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM, the rich bokeh effect of the one-stop brighter F2.8 aperture is an attractive feature. The wider aperture also allows for faster shutter speeds to help prevent subject blurs. Its 11-blade circular diaphragm also allows the photographer to enjoy a beautiful, almost circular bokeh effect when the aperture is stopped down slightly.

F2.8 L Zoom Series Covering Wider Focal Length Range
With the introduction of RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z, a new F2.8 L zoom series is now available to professional photographers. Together with RF15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM and RF 100-300mm F2.8 L IS USM, a wide focal length range of 15-300mm can now be covered with 3 F2.8 zoom lens, bringing new advantages to professional fields such as sports photography.
Excellent Optical Performance
In RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z, both 24-105mm with consistent F2.8 specification and movie features are achieved by the combination of the fixed front lens element, a new multi-group movement optical type and adoption of in-camera distortion correction. This design enables suppressing shifting of gravity center accompanied by tele-wide zoom operation, resulting in comfortably smooth zooming.
Three aspherical lenses and 4 UD lenses are effectively placed in the 23 elements in 18 groups optical system to achieve the same high image quality as that of RF24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM. This is also sufficient to support high-precision images of 8K/6K movies delivered by EOS R-series cameras. Enhanced image quality is achieved throughout all focal lengths from closest range to infinity by employing an electronic floating focus control system that independently drives two focal lens groups with two Nano USM.

Replica and GMo Aspherical Lens
RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is equipped for the first time with a Replica Aspherical Lens that achieves a surface precision superior to that used in EF lenses, thanks to improvements in the manufacturing process. This enhances the degree of flexibility in optical design and contributes to downsizing of the overall product.
The use of 1 Replica Aspherical lens and 2 Glass-Molded (GMo) Aspherical lenses achieves high-level image quality throughout the entire screen.
Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) Lens
Four UD lenses are effectively placed to correct chromatic aberration throughout all zoom ranges. Clear image reproduction with reduced color bleeding is achieved.
Air Sphere Coating (ASC)
ASC (Air Sphere Coating) with excellent anti-reflection effect is incorporated to suppress the occurrence of flaring and ghosting to a higher degree.
0.29x Maximum Magnification
The maximum magnification of the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is 0.29x, allowing users to capture subjects with larger size and more details compared to the 0.24x magnification of the RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM (at 105mm). The minimum focusing distance is 0.45m throughout the entire zoom range.
Thanks to Electronic Floating Focus Control, aberration fluctuations when focus distance changes are suppressed, enhanced image quality is achieved from closest range to infinity.

Image Stabilization up to 8.0-stop5
The lens’ built-in Optical Image Stabilizer provides up to 5.5-stop image stabilization4 that facilitates handheld shooting. When paired with an EOS R series camera equipped with In-Body Image Stabilization, up to 8.0-stop5 image stabilization can be achieved.
Since images can be stabilized even during slow shutter setting, this lens is useful for night-view landscape photo shooting as well as handheld movie shooting.

The first standard zoom lens to feature 3 IS Modes
IS mode switch is featured for the first time among standard zoom lenses in RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z. With IS Mode 1/2/3 supported, it enables image stabilization operation that is almost the same as RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM.

Electronic Floating Focus Control
The RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z adopts the "Electronic Floating Focus Control" technology with a "floating lens group" and a "focus lens group" for autofocus. With this technology, the positions of the "focus lens group" and "floating lens group" can change according to the focal length and subject distance without the need of complex zoom cam mechanism. Two Nano USMs are used to drive the "focus lens group" and "floating lens group" individually to reduce aberration fluctuation. They can deliver high speed and high accuracy AF for photo shooting as well as smooth and nearly silent Movie Servo AF for movie recording
In addition, the focus position is maintained by suppressing focus fluctuation during zooming through mechanical configuration and electrical control.
This is effective for high-speed burst shooting and movie shooting while operating zoom.
Suppressed Focus Breathing
The "Electronic Floating Focus Control" technology in RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z also reduces lens breathing in movie shooting, change in angle of view is suppressed even when focus distance changes.
When paired with EOS R-series cameras supporting Focus Breathing Correction, the changes in the angle of view caused by focus movement can be further suppressed. It allows users to record natural movies with no discomfort even if focus is changed from foreground to background or vice-versa.
Unparalleled Reliability and Operability
Lens Function(L-Fn) Button
Features 2 Lens Function (L-Fn) Buttons at the top and left of the lens. In addition to the default AF OFF function, various shooting functions can also be customized to personal preferences.
Control Ring
Incorporates control ring for adjusting assigned settings such as ISO speed, shutter speed or aperture value directly from the lens.
The clicking sensation and sound of the control ring can be removed for silent control during photo shooting or video recording. This service is available at Canon Care Center (chargeable service).
Compatible with Electronic full-time MF
Lens is compatible with Electronic full-time MF6, focus can be adjusted manually with focus ring anytime during ONE SHOT AF or SERVO AF.
Fluorine coating
Fluorine coating on foremost lens surface helps prevent dust, oil, and water from sticking to the lens, makes cleaning much easier.
Dust and water-resistance7
Control ring, focus ring, zoom ring, iris ring, operation panel, mount part and attachment holes are designed to be dust- and water-resistance7.
Also, Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2 boasts dust- and water-resistant performance7 equivalent to that of RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z.
