Speedlite EL-5
HK$3,180.00
The Speedlite EL-5 is the first high-performance flash designed for the multi-purpose shoe1. It provides a guide number (GN) of 60 (m, ISO 100, 200mm) and a flash coverage of 24mm to 200mm focal length. The Speedlite EL-5 adopts the same high-efficiency charging circuit and Battery Pack LP-EL as found in the flagship Speedlite EL-1, providing super-high-speed 0.1-1.2s2 recharge and approximately 350 to 2,450 flashes2 per charge. The Speedlite EL-5 can also output continuous flashes at full power for up to 95 times or more3, which meets the needs of continuous flash photography. Speedlite EL-5 also features two built-in white LED lights as both modeling lights and an auto focus assist beam with automatic light intensity adjustment4. Its new Custom Flash Mode C1/C2/C3 can be linked with the corresponding Custom Shooting mode C1/C2/C3 of the camera. The Speedlite EL-5 also incorporates radio transmission wireless flash function and dust-and-water resistance design5.
Compatible Camera: EOS R camera with Multi-Function Shoe (Incompatible with EOS R5 C / R5 / R6 / R / Ra / RP / R100 nor EOS Digital SLR camera)
Flagship Class Flash Performance
Quick Recharge Time
The Speedlite EL-5 uses the same high-speed charging circuits as the flagship Speedlite EL-1, providing super high-speed recharging time of approx. 0.1 to 1.2 sec2 , even at low battery level, bringing quick and reliable flash performance. By emitting continuous strobe flashes, the flash illuminates moving subjects and helps reduce the delay time between photos. This allows the user to take flash photos easily and effectively.
Number of Continuous Flash
Speedlite EL-5 is fanless but has a continuous flash count of approx. 95 times or more at full output3. This enables user to meet the most demanding situations where continuous shooting with flash is required even for extended durations.
High Capacity Li-ion Battery
Speedlite EL-5 adopts the same Li-ion Battery Pack LP-EL as in Speedlite EL-1. Since Speedlite EL-5 has no colling fan, so power is used exclusively to charge and fire the flash. This increases the number of maximum flashes to 350 to 2,450 flashes2. This is useful in situations where the user may need to take a large number of continuous flash photos, such as at weddings or other indoor events.

Maximum Guide Number (GN): 60
The Speedlite EL-5 offers a maximum guide number (GN) of 60 (m, ISO 100, 200mm), matching that of the flagship Speedlite EL-1. This provides enough light to illuminate even distant subjects.
Speedlite EL-5 provides a flash coverage from 24mm to 200mm, coverage extended to 14mm with built-in wide panel.
11-stop Manual Flash Output
With the ability to vary the output power of the Speedlite EL-5 between 1/1 and 1/1024 (total 11-stop), user will be able to control and reduce the intensity of the flash to match the atmosphere of the scene. The wide range of output levels allows more flexibility for creativity in flash photography in different shooting situations.
Flexible Bounce Flash
Speedlite EL-5 features flexible bounce flash angles, its flash head can be turned approx. 180° to the left or right, approx.120° up and approx.. 7° down, which is convenient for making bounce flash shots from different angles.
In previous models, bounce lock-release button has to be pressed before turning the flash head. The button has been cancelled in Speedlite EL-5 for swift direct adjustment of flash head angle.
High-speed Sync
High-seed Sync is being supported by the Speedlite EL-5, high-speed sync is a function that allows triggering the flash at a shutter speed exceeding the flash sync speed of the camera. Since this function uses a higher shutter speed than that used in normal flash photography, the lens aperture can be left fully open even when shooting outdoors in the daytime. This makes it possible to achieve beautiful bokeh effects.
No flash
If the exposure is set to optimize the clarity of the subject’s face, it may be more difficult to adjust the overexposed background, contrast, and coloring.
Normal flash sync
Because shutter speed is limited by flash sync, the bright light forces the user of smaller aperture, thus difficult to achieve the blurred background effect.
High-speed sync
Since shutter speed is no longer limited by flash sync, it is possible to enhances the brightness and clarity of the subject’s face with flash while also achieving the blurred background effect with a large-aperture lens. This offers a wider range of photographic expression.
Multi-function Shoe Expands Functionality and Reliability
Speedlite EL-5 is the first Speedlite designed for Multi-function Shoe1. The multi-function shoe is a next-generation interface designed to expand the capabilities of the EOS system.
This shoe provides additional contact points that enhance functionality and support functions like high-speed data communication and dependable power supply.
As a result, Speedlite EL-5 offers superior coordination between camera and flash unit for more new functions, such as AF-assist beam with automatic light intensity adjustment, Menu Direct and Custom Flash Mode etc.
Terminals on the Speedlite EL-5’s mounting foot are gold-plated for stable communication, the camera connection status will also be checked before initiating communication. Speedlite EL-5 detects the connection status with camera after it is attached, which prevents the EL-5 from entering auto power off by itself accidentally. The EL-5 also detects the connection status after camera have entered auto power off, so that the EL-5 is ready to fire sooner after camera wakes from auto power off.

Menu Direct Function
The user can easily display the menu for [Flash function setting] or [Quick flash group control] 6 by by simply selecting the <Menu Direct> option on the Speedlite EL-5.

Custom Flash Modes
Speedlite EL-5 features new Custom Flash Mode C1/C2/C3, which user can now register 3 flash setting (flash mode, sync setting and wireless setting etc.,) to the flash as in camera’s C1/C2/C3 mode. Apart from enabling auto update settings, user can also link camera’s customer shooting mode to flash’s custom flash mode. When Custom shooting mode C1/C2/C3 is selected on the camera, the flash mode will be switched automatically to Custom flash mode C1/C2/C3 accordingly.
AF-assist Beam with Automatic Light Intensity Adjustment 4
When using EOS R camera to auto focus in low light environment in the past, intermittent flash will be fired by the flash as AF-assist beam.
When a subject is in a low light environment, the pupils of their eyes become dilated, so even a small amount of light from a flash bulb can be blinding.
Speedlite EL-5 is equipped with two white LED for use as modeling lamps (with adjustable brightness) and AF-assist beam.
When paired with compatible cameras4, Speedlite EL-5 adjusts the LED AF-assist beam intensity to suit the brightness, so that people do not perceive it as being too bright.
Radio Transmission Wireless Flash Function
2.4GHz Radio Transmission Wireless Flash
Renowned integrated 2.4GHz radio transmission wireless flash "Sender" and "Receiver" functions7, up to 15 "Receivers" in 5 groups can be controlled, wireless 2nd curtain sync8 is also supported.
Effective transmission distance is approx. 30m, 15 channels and 10,000 radio transmission IDs is available to prevent interference.
Quick flash group control6
With EOS R6 Mark II or later compatible cameras, [Quick flash group control] is available for fast control of flash group settings on camera.
Using Sender to control the receiver’s modeling lamp
When using Speedlite EL-5 as both sender and receiver, the user can control the on/off setting of the receiver unit’s modeling lamp from the sender unit. There is no need to go around each receiver and manually turn the modelling light on and off.
Configurate wireless flash setting with Camera Connect App
Canon’s Camera Connect app allows users to control the wireless flash settings, shutter release, and check photo results. The user can operate and configure these settings from a smartphone without touching the camera or flash units.
Enhanced Operability
User Interface of Speedlite EL-1
Speedlite EL-5 inherits the same large and high-resolution reflective memory LCD panel, joystick and user interface from Speedlite EL-1 for more intuitive viewing and speedy operation.
Flash control via the control ring of a Canon RF lens6
When paired with EOS R6 Mark II or later compatible cameras, the [Flash exposure comp./output] function can be assigned to Control Ring. Depending on the flash setting (E-TTL/manual), this will allow users to use the control ring not only to adjust the flash exposure compensation, but also to control the output of the flash.
Uncompromised Reliability
Dust and Water Resistant Design 5
Speedlite EL-5 provides dust and water resistant performance equivalent to that of EOS R5.
To ensure watertightness, sealing is applied to the joints of the exterior cover.
Even when shooting under difficult conditions, dust and moisture is prevented from penetrating the unit body.
Dust and Water Resistant Adapter
The flash’s locking mechanism features a rubber adapter. When the shoe is locked, the adapter is lowered and presses against the multi-function shoe, providing even greater dust and water resistant performance.
